Papert invented Logo which turned millions of kids onto programming. The Logo programming language is a functional programming language. He was one of the proponents of Constructionist learning, which has a powerful influence on SLA and all of the project-based learning folks. SPREADSHEETS!

Mathematics is an obvious choice when it comes to choosing a subject to tie spreadsheets to. Students can use spreadsheets to track the number of books they read, the amount of food and the times they feed the class pet, or to follow stock prices! They could also use spreadsheets to see which of their classmates have dogs or cats, or who rides a bus to school or who walks. Teachers should get students to see data represented in graphs often.
Present survey information in various graph forms and DISCUSS what it shows. The concepts of rows and columns may be difficult for you children to understand. A good beginner activity would be to
have students line up in rows, put rows together to identify columns.
Use manipulatives to reinforce this concept.

My Blog Thoughts.................

This is my first blog experience. I thought it would be difficult, when actually it is not. As I have learned from previous experiences, the only way to get better at something in which you are not familiar is to PRACTICE-PRACTICE-PRACTICE. I have a better understanding than when I first started. Each week gets easier and easier.
Blogging can be useful in K-12 classrooms. If someone misses a day of class, this is an excellent way for them to find out the work they missed. Younger childen may find it difficult to keep up with a journal. Since blogging is like an online journal they would have fun making their journal entries online. This is also an excellent way to keep up with the fastly changing advances in technology. Students can also share their research, thoughts, and ideas outside of the classroom. Also, children may also feel more comfortable communicating on a computer rather than in a classroom setting.
Some negative aspects of blogging would be that children would spend too much time blogging and not enough time studying or doing homework. Parents should monitor the time a child spends on the computer.

This class is ok so far. I didn't get to do my presentation today (and I really wanted to get it over with) so I have to be nervous an anxious for two MORE days!

My First Blog!!

I have no idea what I am doing! I am a fast learner though. I have some knowledge of computers, but this takes it to an entirely different level. I think I will enjoy the challenge.
